Last night I discovered the joys of Wikipedia's random article function. Normally when I use the site it's only to look at a specific thing—I've never actually taken a look around the front page.
Anyway, I learnt about European communes in the Middle Ages; an English footballer; an American baseball player; a fantasy writer; a controversial English author, journalist, and lifelong feminist; and a few other things that have since escaped my memory.
Perhaps not the most riveting Saturday night of my life, but it was a good way to pass the time while waiting for To Kill A Mockingbird to load (it took so long I only watched four minutes before giving up and going to bed). By the way, the book is wonderful and I highly recommend it.
What else did I do last night? Watched Iron Chef America, of course! The secret ingredient was goat though, which, with me being vegetarian/an aspiring vegan wasn't my plate of, erm, tofu. However, I did see the neatest little jellied red wine balls being made. They cooked red wine with sugar and something to give the balls a hard/jelly outside, then put the liquid into syringes and proceeded to slowly put drops of it into a large dish of what I'm assuming was very cold water. They shook the dish and the balls formed. Apparently they were liquid on the inside. Yum!
Validating B2evolution is becoming a nightmare in many ways. It's supposed to be valid! I don't get it because all the code I've put in is valid and the stuff that isn't is probably in some file in some folder that I've not touched since I starting using the script. It's so bloody frustrating! It's not valid strict either, but transitional. I've switched the rest of my pages to transitional DTD for uniformities sake.
Despite all of that I do like B2 though. It does what I want and that's what is important (for now at least).
Had my first filling restoration done this morning. I was unfortunately about 10 minutes late to the appointment due to my own stupidity and traffic. Bravo. The receptionist was not pleased because they did a lot of shuffling around of people to fit me in before I go away.
I feel terrible about it, but that is life and sometimes we are late.
I have another appointment on Monday, one of Tuesday and a polishing on...Wednesday, I think.
At this point it looks like I will be without the desktop computer for a few weeks as my dad has a lot of stuff on it that he needs to transfer to his laptop. I'm cool with that as long as I get it as some point sooner than later.
There are two different file managers in my CPanelx which I can use to keep my Quilting Bee quilt updated with trades, and if I have to make any emergency changes to any of the sites.
I'll copy all of my website files onto disks (or maybe memory stick if I can borrow that) and backup everything online as well. I should backup more often anyway...
The plan now is to finally upgrade my Enthusiast scripts. Wish me luck...
I finally got into gear and found a CSS image rollover tutorial, thanks to the help of some lovely bees! It seems to be working fine in Firefox and Internet Explorer, but if you notice anything funky going on with the navigation, please let me know (I will give you a cookie if you do).
I've removed an affiliate, Sarah, because her site isn't there anymore and I haven't heard from her at all in a very long time. It's always sad when you loose touch with people, but I still have her email, so maybe I'll email her sometime.
The whole affiliate thing is a weird business at times. I'm not a good affiliate, I fully admit that. I don't visit my affie's sites on a very regular basis. Maybe a few times a month and some more than others because I know they update more often. The only exception to the above are two of my affiliates that I have become good friends with over the last three years and year, plus we are connected in ways other than just our websites.
I rarely make gifts for my affies — mostly because I'm too lazy to, but also because I don't even really see the point in making them all the time. I know it's nice to get them and to give them, but if I have to make a new one every bloody month then forget it!
I'm also seriously considering dis-affiliating with a couple of people purely because I hardly ever go to their sites and their content and such doesn't appeal to me at all. Or they themselves don't. It's not that they're not lovely people, it's just that we're very, very different and I also like to read blogs and other content that is tasteful and nicely done. Not "I LyK DiS Gy N lYk i WnT Hm 2 cAl MeH" or misspelt words all the time, and definitely on purpose as opposed to a genuine mistake (which I make all the time... But you love me anyway, right?).
You know what I'm talking about. *facepalm*
It's not that people who write like that are bad or horrible people who aren't worth my time, it's just that I personally cannot sit through an entire entry written like that, or with content like that. It's just not something my mind is capable of doing, and I'm glad for it.
So, that's what is on my mind at the moment, in regards to the Internet.
Offline, however, is a little different. In a few weeks or so I am definitely moving to Auckland. I'm really pleased I have somewhat of a date to work towards; it makes things so much easier.
On the other hand I'm not exactly sure if I will be able to take the desktop computer with me, which essentially would leave me computerless and thus incapable of updating the site (aside from the blog). That would be a rather large, unfortunate pickle. I'm hoping like hell my dad says it's okay to take it because a very large, important part of my life exists on it (as sad as they may seem to people who are not addicted to webdesign — you are missing out).
Even if I get to take the computer I have no idea if it will be Internet enabled for some time. I will definitely have 'net access at various places, including where I will be living, but I'm not sure if my computer will be hooked up or not (it's complicated as to why it might not be).
Oh well, so long as I use the last few weeks here in Gisborne to make sure every minor detail about my sites are all good then I should be fine. Thank the Universal Powers That Be for Enthusiast, otherwise I would have to give up all my fan and namelists! Tragic if ever there was a tragedy!
I should really be sleeping right now, or at least attempting to, but I don't feel like it despite being quite tired.
Some personal stuff has been going on at the moment that is taking it's tole on me physically and mentally. But it could always be much, much worse and there is a silver lining. Somewhere.
I'm going to post my favourite poem by William Blake. It's called 'Auguries of Innocence'. Actually, if you've ever seen the first Tomb Raider movie, you may recognise the first part of the poem, as it features in the film:
To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.
Remember? It's the clue Lara's father hid in a book for her. It's my favourite part of the poem (not because of the Angelina connection, but because I think it's one of the most beautiful things ever written)!
The whole thing is below, under the cut, because it's looong.

Yesterday was very lazy. I didn't get anything that I had planned done because I was too blah! So I hired some DVDs instead (don't you just love it when your DVD store sends out coupons for discounts?).
Anyway, I got Trainspotting, which I'd never seen in it's entirety before, just snippets here and there. I enjoyed, and not just because Jonny Lee Miller is in it.
I also got The Dreamers, which is amazing and, if you haven't seen it, you must! It's a strange film in some parts, but beautiful and lovely all the way through.
I got three others: City of God, Blow and Coffee and Cigarettes. Haven't watched any of them yet, but I've seen Blow before (Johnny Depp is in it, so therefore it is mandatory).
Right, off to find fuel (i.e., edibles and drinkables), and then pretend to be a film snob for the afternoon.
